Whilst living in Scotland and after much gazing through the window of the Aberdeen Mountain Rescue Base and tapping on the door I was eventually allowed to join.

MR Teams across the UK do the most amazing job, volunteering to help out those in trouble in the hills in all weather. Regardless of if you have got stuck soloing a new route on the Ben or twisted your ankle in the carpark.

I learnt a huge amount from the team and made some great friends. My rope work improved, I learned to love the Cairngorms in all weathers and seasons and I learnt that even when you ruin the Christmas roast potatoes in the Bothy for 30 people after some initial abuse, everyone is actually quite forgiving.
I was a real privilege to be part of AMRT and I miss it.
